The dining room is typically the most elegant in the house, while not being the one that is used the most frequently. It is here that friends and family meet to celebrate important occasions, entertain visitors, and throw parties. Naturally, a room of such distinction would be decorated and equipped exquisitely with high-quality furnishings.

Therefore, it is only appropriate that the dining room house some of your most fashionable and prized items, such as crystal chandeliers, antique china cabinets, priceless wall paintings, and elegant lace drapes. The dining table, however, serves as the room’s focal point.

A good dining room table is an expensive piece of furniture that is both functional and elegant, so moving it along with shipping your other furnishing, can be a tough ask.

Although moving a dining room set is not particularly challenging, you must exercise extreme caution when packing and shipping fragile furniture items to prevent damage or scratching.

Here is some moving advice from professionals to help you move your dining room table and chairs safely and securely to your new place (If you’re not looking for us to do it for you)

How to Move and Pack a Dining Room Table:

Making sure your belongings are safe is the first step to a successful and easy transfer. To do this, you must provide your belongings with the best security available or, to put it another way, pack them effectively.

The procedure of packing a dining room table is easy, but you must pay close attention to the small details to minimize the danger of harm to your good furniture.

Preparing dining room table for packing:

Documenting the state of the furniture:

To document the state of the furniture before the relocation, take several images of your table from various perspectives. The pictures will assist you in putting your table back together after the relocation and will act as documentation if you need to file a claim against the movers (in case the table is damaged while in their care)

Cleaning Items:

Before packing the furniture for moving, thoroughly clean everything and allow it to completely dry (any remaining dust, dirt, or spills may damage the delicate surface of the table or result in permanent stains, while moisture trapped under the packing materials can lead to mold growth or cause the wood to warp or swell)

Polishing Furniture:

To further protect the wood throughout the relocation, treat it with furniture polish or paste wax.

Disassembling your table:

If at all feasible, disassembling your dining table before packing it for moving can make it much simpler to pack and move while lowering the danger of damage to your furniture and belongings.

Remove the table’s top if it is made of glass or marble. Further details are:

  • The table should be upside-down on a large, soft blanket with the legs pointing upward.
  • Remove the table legs by unbolting, unscrewing, or breaking the glue joints between the legs and the table. Slide the blade of a putty knife between the legs and the table and carefully break the bond to remove them. Make careful to cover the table legs in many layers of bubble wrap to provide at least some protection during the relocation if you don’t remove them properly.
  • Wrap the broken legs with bubble wrap, then tape the covering along the length of the legs.
  • Tape the sealable plastic bag containing the removed hardware (bolts, nuts, screws, etc.) to the bottom of the table or one of the wrapped table legs.
  • Remove the extension leaf from your table and drape it in a moving blanket if it has one (use packing tape or stretch wrap to keep the blanket in place)
  • If your table has to drop sides, you should put the sides down and tape them tight so they won’t move at all when you move.

Wrapping the table:

  • The corners and edges of the table, which are most susceptible to chipping or breaking during transport, should be covered with corrugated cardboard pieces.
  • Overlap the moving blankets on the tabletop by at least one foot. If the blankets don’t completely wrap the furniture, you may attach them to the underside of the table by wrapping packing tape around the surface. However, do not apply tape directly on the tables as the adhesive might harm the fine wood finish or leave a sticky residue.

Packing Glass Tables for Shipping:

Glass is not only very delicate but also heavy and difficult to handle. Therefore, packing a glass table top demands extreme care and devotion. Wrap it with the utmost care and attention to prevent breaking or any damage, cracks, or scratches during the move.

  • Remove the glass top from the table frame by simply lifting the glass piece away if the top merely sits on the base of the table without being fixed to it. Use a screwdriver to detach the glass top from the frame if it is screwed into the table base.
  • Masking tape may be used across the tables in several different directions without leaving a sticky residue on the glass. If the tabletop breaks during the transport, this will provide the glass item some more strength and stability and keep the glass pieces together (which will help prevent damage upon unpacking)
  • Make sure the tape doesn’t touch the glass surface when you wrap the glass top in packing paper and fasten it. You may also sandwich the glass top between two pieces of cardboard that are substantially larger than the tabletop, fold the extra cardboard over the sides of the glass item, and secure the tabletop with tape.
  • Wrap the top of the paper-wrapped table with many layers of bubble wrap. (It is preferable to wrap the tabletop with moving blankets if you have used cardboard.) To keep the wrapper in place, tape it.
  • Place the covered tabletop in an appropriate-sized telescoping box; it should exactly fit the glass top so there is no room for movement within the box (any shifting during transit can result in breakage). Your glass tables will be best protected throughout the relocation by the specialized box, which was made especially for moving mirrors, photographs, and other glass goods. To make a protective covering for your glass item, you may use corrugated cardboard if you can’t locate a suitable telescopic box or don’t want to pay extra money.
  • Cut a large piece of cardboard from a flattened cardboard box, set the tabletop in the center, and then fold the cardboard around the glass. Ensure the cardboard completely encloses the glass top and is securely fastened with packing tape.
  • Use a permanent marker to write “FRAGILE” and “HANDLE WITH CARE” on the box’s sides. Make the letters big and bold so that they are visible.

Moving a dining room table:

It’s time to focus on the moving operations, which include taking the furniture out of your house, packing it securely, loading it on a moving truck, driving it to your new home, unloading it, and setting it up in your new dining room. But how can you accomplish it securely and effectively?

The best approach for moving a dining table is to hire professional movers to do the task since they have the specialized tools, deft handling techniques, and wealth of expertise needed to handle your fragile things. You won’t have to worry since the experts will take all the essential steps to ensure the top-notch condition of your furniture and will handle all the job.

However, if you’ve chosen to move on your own, you’ll need to handle every aspect of the move by yourself and ensure that your dining room table is moved out of your home safely and securely loaded into the moving truck.
